Newcastle-based independent pastry business DoughHeads has secured four national product accolades at the 2026 National Doughnut Competition on the Gold Coast. Hosted by the Baking Association of Australia, the annual industry event evaluates production standards, technical execution, and flavor profiles across commercial baking entities nationwide.
The regional enterprise achieved first-place rankings in the Gourmet Doughnut and Cinnamon Ring divisions, alongside second and third-place finishes in the Classic Chocolate and Traditional Jam categories respectively.
The competition submission required an overnight production cycle managed by Head Pastry Chef Kallan Bragg at the company’s Newcastle production facility, followed by immediate climate-controlled transit logistics via Newcastle Airport to the judging hub in Queensland.
Co-owner of DoughHeads, Matt Mors noted that the national industry recognition highlights the operational standards maintained by the regional kitchen team.
“This win is a true testament to the incredible talent and dedication of our team,” Matt said. “Kal and our team pour their heart and soul into everything they create. To see Kal’s work recognised on a national stage is incredibly rewarding, and we’re so proud to support him in doing what he does best.”
Head Pastry Chef, Kallan Bragg said the competitive process validates daily kitchen quality control benchmarks.
“I’m stoked,” Kallan said. “We work hard every day to make the best doughnuts we possibly can, so it’s pretty special to see that recognised.”
Following the national judging phase, the business will integrate its award-winning seasonal product lines into its standard retail distribution rotation over the winter trading period, alongside its core daily menu items.
