At Morrissey Law + Advisory (MLA) the psychological wellbeing of their staff is a number one priority.
That emphasis on wellbeing was recognised earlier this month, with MLA being announced as the winner of the Best Mental Health Wellbeing Initiative in a Legal Workplace for 2020.
This was announced at the Minds Count Foundation Annual Awards for their initiative – Mind Your Marbles.
The Minds Count Foundation’s objective is to decrease work related psychological ill-health in the legal community and to promote workplace psychological health and safety.
Since its beginnings in August 2008, the Foundation has been at the forefront of building greater awareness of depression and anxiety across all areas of the legal fraternity.
The Award is an annual and national award recognising the best initiatives from large and small law firms and businesses and the 220+ signatories to the Foundation’s Guidelines.
Director of MLA, Belinda Crosbie, said she was thrilled to see their focus on wellbeing recognised on a national scale.
“We are so proud to have been awarded the Best Mental Wellbeing Initiative in a Legal Workplace by the Minds Count Foundation for 2020,” Belinda said.
Belinda went on to say that this is an incredibly important award for their group, with rates of mental illness in their professional incredibly high locally and nationally.
“Mental health is the number one WHS issue affecting our number one asset, our incredible team.
“At MLA we have worked for over twelve months to research and implement our Mind Your Marbles initiative, a collaborative and structured approach to improving the mental health, resilience and wellbeing of our team. That initiative has led to changes in every aspect of our business and we are rebuilding the practice of law to achieve it.
“We’re so excited to have that initiative recognised and look forward to sharing our Marbles updates with our clients, colleagues and industry groups over the next year.”
Last year’s winner was the top tier and international law firm Herbert Smith Freehills.
Morrissey Law + Advisory is a NewLaw firm with its head office based in Newcastle. It also has offices in Sydney, Port Macquarie and Central West NSW.
It was founded by Michael Morrissey in 2017 with the view that a law firm with a focus on relationships is best placed to creatively solve complex legal problems.
While the core of their business is focused on construction and infrastructure, MLA also work with businesses across the manufacturing, NFP, agribusiness and transport and logistics sectors.
