Singleton wins gold at tourism awards

Singleton Visitor Information and Enterprise Centre (SVIEC) won gold overnight at the 2013 QantasLink Hunter/Central Coast Awards for Excellence in Tourism.

The centre won the Visitor Information and Services category out of 65 finalists across 24 categories. The awards were announced at a gala dinner at Wests New Lambton to celebrate the tourism's industry's leading contributors.

It is the second year in a row the SVIEC has picked up the tourism award. It is also the second major award for the SVIEC this year after it was presented the National Local Government Award for Excellence in Tourism in June.

Singleton Council General Manager Lindy Hyam says the award recognises the commitment of the visitor information and economic development team to providing quality customer service.

“Located at the gateway to Singleton in Townhead Park, the Visitor Information and Enterprise Centre is the perfect place for visitors and locals to rest, recharge and unearth the local treasures our region has to offer,” Lindy said.

“This award is a reflection of the hard work the team has put in to making the centre a valued community asset – not just for our visitor economy – but for residents and businesses.”

“To win the award two years in a row is a tremendous achievement and demonstrates the team's commitment to not just maintaining but continually improving and building on the foundation of excellence we've established.”

The SVIEC is a multi-purpose facility that provides ample parking, clean amenities, barbecue and playground facilities, refreshments, giftware and local produce, free internet access, conferencing facilities and information services.

Other winners from the Singleton Local Government Area include Stays in the Vines who specialise in providing well-appointed and maintained self-contained group accommodation in the Hunter Valley and Margan Wines who picked up awards in the Tourism Wineries, Distilleries and Breweries category and the Qantas Award for Excellence in Sustainable Tourism.
