Nominations open for inaugural Employability Excellence Awards

The University of Newcastle has announced that their inaugural Employability Excellence Awards is back again for 2020, with award nominations closing in just a few days.

The Employability Excellence Awards are an opportunity to recognise local community partners, students, and staff working together to create outstanding employability experiences for work-ready graduates.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Mark Hoffman, said the Awards are a great way to celebrate and highlight the work of all who are involved in ensuring employment after graduation is not only achieved but encouraged.

“Supporting our students to gain employment after graduation is a core focus of the University’s Looking Ahead strategy,’ Mark said.

“The institution is committed to helping students hone lessons from the classroom in a real work environment.

“The new awards aim to highlight and recognise not only the amazing achievements of students outside the classroom, but also acknowledge the staff, businesses and community partners that facilitate and foster their talent through workplace learning, classroom collaboration, extra-curricular activity and recruitment support.”

Mark said that these Awards are an opportunity to nominate that amazing UoN student, staff member, or business who have been going above and beyond to learn in the workplace over the past 12 months.

“Think big – perhaps you know of a student achievement as part of a community activity, or achievements in internships that highlight students’ employability skills. There is no limit to the number of individuals, businesses or organisations who can be nominated,” he said.

The seven Award categories are:

  • Student Intern/Cadet of the Year
  • Work Integrated Learning student of the year
  • Student Employability Achievement Award
  • Student Entrepreneur of the Year
  • Work Integrated Learning Hall of Fame Awards
  • New Partner in Employability Award
  • Work Integrated Learning Staff Member of the Year

Nominations for the Awards close on Friday 25 September 2020, with achievers set to be announced on Thursday 12 November 2020.
