Newcastle has proved a hot spot for launching national brands, with a local business cracking this year’s Business Review Weekly’s (BRW) Fast 100 List – a rank of Australia’s fastest growing established companies.
MCG Quantity Surveyors, an organisation launched in Newcastle and established in Charlestown, has seen significant growth that has led it to take a spot amongst the nation’s top performers.
Managing Director of MCG Quantity Surveyors, Mike Mortlock said their path to national recognition was made possible by kicking off in Newcastle.
“When my Co-founder, Marty Sadlier, and I launched MCG in 2011, the idea of setting up our base of operations in Newcastle was really a no-brainer,” Mike said.
“The lower cost of operations along with lifestyle benefits and the supportive business community environment in the Hunter Region meant we stayed several steps ahead of others who worked out of Sydney.
“Now that we’ve been recognised as one of the nation’s fastest growing companies, it’s obvious we made the right choice to stay local.”
The business eventually moved to Charlestown, which remains their base of operations, and has grown to include a full-time staff of 15.
“Making the list of Australia’s top 100 fastest growing companies is a true honour – the entire team has put in hours and hours of hard work to ensure that our clients and referral partners are taken care of.”
Mike said anyone look to begin a start-up journey should study the benefits of keeping it regional.
“By adopting the right strategy, and taking advantage of the available technology, businesses can base themselves almost anywhere and grow to become national market leaders,” Mike said.
“The key is to look for a supportive environment, and the Newcastle region offers all of that – and with a great lifestyle to boot.”
