Newcastle-based planning and development firm, Approved, is celebrating its second consecutive year as an authorised consultant under the City of Newcastle’s Accelerated Development Application (ADA) initiative.
The program aims to fast-track approval processes for low-impact and eligible developments within the Newcastle Local Government Area (LGA), significantly reducing determination times. Initially hailed as a “game changer” by former Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelms, the ADA initiative has positioned Newcastle at the forefront of development approval innovation in the Hunter Region.
Approved’s General Manager, Jade Pearsall, emphasises the initiatives significant outcomes for our local area and clients of Approved “In the trial we saw numerous development types submitted by Approved and determined in less than five days. Our most exciting submission, a swimming pool approved within the same day”.
Since its inception, Approved aims to streamline the process of developing and building overall from the initial design concept to the construction of a project, leveraging our expertise and experience to overcome common roadblocks for businesses and individuals when obtaining development approval. Working with City of Newcastle during the ADA trial, Authorised Consultants part of the initiative collectively saw ninety-six DAs approved via the ADA pathway with an average determination period of 5.8 days – reducing the overall processing times by 25 percent.
Reflecting on the programs continued success, Pearsall notes “Since the trial, we have seen more complex developments approved under the pathway like secondary dwellings, a knock down rebuild, and developments located in heritage conservation areas. We aim to continue this momentum and our role in continuing the success of fast tracking the development approval process for our clients. Watch this space.”
With the ADA pathway proving its efficiency in the Newcastle LGA Approved hopes Councils NSW wide will adopt similar measures to expedite the development approval process, contributing to the achievement of Australia’s housing targets sooner rather than later.
For developers, investors, and property owners wondering how to reach a sites potential in the fastest way possible, staying informed about the latest changes in the planning and development industry is crucial. Approved remains at the forefront, ready to assist clients in navigating the evolving landscape of development approvals.
