The Hunter Region’s business connections with China will be further strengthened at a business forum, taking place on 22 September 2016 at Newcastle Exhibition and Convention Centre as part of the Newcastle China Week.
Some of Australia’s top business leaders will provide exclusive insight, tips, case studies and knowledge on seizing Asia’s largest economy targeted at local business professionals, entrepreneurs, students and start-ups.
Presented by the Confucius Institute at the University of Newcastle, Newcastle City Council, Hamilton Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by National Australia Bank (NAB), the forum will provide a platform for conversation and idea generation on embracing one of the world’s leading economies into how we do business on a local level.
Rhys Palmer, University Director of Strategic Institution Relations (Greater China) said that although China is one of the most valuable contributors to the strength of Australia’s economy, the Hunter has been relatively slow to engage and capitalize on the opportunities available.
“The aim of the 2016 China Week Business Forum is to build our collective capabilities and capacity to promote important economic, cultural and people-to-people links between China and the Hunter region,” Rhys said.
“This will in turn lead to a stronger and richer relationship, with a view to creating new jobs and industries, and enhancing Newcastle’s global connectedness and future prosperity.”
A program of speakers including event sponsor the Port of Newcastle, PwC Australia’s Director of China Practice, Newcastle Airport CEO and thought leaders from Think Global and Think China will discuss how our region can build long-term sustainable connections with China.
Elizabeth Huxley, Head of Trade and Working Capital for NSW/ACT from NAB, as the major sponsor for China Week, will provide some practical advice around how to navigate foreign exchange pitfalls using real-life examples.
Other themes will include discussion around gateways to China, Chinese visitors and consumers, e-commerce and digital marketing strategies and trade and negotiation tips. CEO Lawrie McKinna will also present a case study on the Newcastle Jets Football Club.
The Chinese Business Forum is part of Newcastle’s largest celebration of the partnership between China and the Hunter region held from 17-25 September 2016.
