Local Naturopath and business owner, Cody Kennedy from CK Health and Wellbeing has won the national Clinic of the Year 2018 award.
The awards were presented by ATMS (Australian Traditional Medicine Society), the largest association for natural therapies in Australia. Cody was flown to Adelaide to receive the award.
Cody said it was great to be recognised by such an authority in the health industry.
“This is an amazing opportunity to promote the importance of health in our community and to be recognised as a leader makes me very proud,” Cody said.
Cody began her career in the natural therapies industry as a Massage Therapist in 1999. After deciding to change direction, Cody chose to study naturopathy and, after moving to the Hunter region in 2015, wrote an online program specifically designed to help people with Lupus SLE, a crippling autoimmune disease, which has helped clients internationally.
In addition to the program, she wrote a cookbook that was specifically designed for those with Lupus.
In early 2017 CK Health changed their focus to a more local clientele. Cody discovered there were a large number of people in her local area who she could help who had a number of different auto-immune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, colitis, Crohn’s disease and MS and Lyme like illnesses.
Cody’s aim is to educate those around her about nutrition and healing. Cody has, in the past, been a mentor for Naturopathic students and maintains close connections with her peers. She often calls upon other professionals for opinions and ideas and has also been a teacher herself of Naturopathy at Newcastle’s WEA Hunter.
Beyond her business, Cody recently established the Dudley Wellness Day, which saw participants raise $800 that was donated to local charity, Charlie’s Run 4 Kids.
Cody said that her future plan is to grow the practice to help people in the Hunter with auto-immune issues and to grow awareness of the benefits of natural therapies.
“Despite the extremely important need for the medical profession to help people in acute situations, people are slowing coming to realise the benefits of natural therapies as a long term, less invasive, solution to chronic illnesses,” Cody said.
In addition to CK Health and Wellbeing winning Clinic of the Year, Cody was nominated as a finalist for Business Leader of the Year as part of the Lake Macquarie Business Excellence Awards.
