Three Hunter-based builders were again listed in the top 100 of Australia’s largest volume builders in the HIA-COLORBOND® steel Housing 100 Report 2017/18.
MJH Group, Mavid Group and Montgomery Homes, each based in the Hunter region, were chosen based on the number of homes they commenced in 2017/18.
HIA Executive Director – Hunter, Craig Jennion said this was an outstanding achievement and a sign of the strength of the region.
“MJH Group, which trades predominantly in NSW as McDonald Jones Homes and Mojo Homes, retained its established mantle as the number one detached house builder in NSW and was listed fourth nationally. In total, 1,697 detached starts occurred in NSW during 2017/18, and a total of 2,160 nationally,” Craig said.
“Adding the multi-unit projects completed, the MJH Group was ranked the sixth largest home builder in Australia, with 2,352 starts, which is impressive considering they don’t operate in the apartment market, unlike a number of those ranked above them.”
With 191 starts, Rutherford based Mavid Group continued to climb the list, ranked the 80th largest home builder nationally, followed by Montgomery Homes who also ascended the ranking to be 85th. Mavid Group was also ranked the 13th largest semi-detached dwelling builder nationally.
“More broadly the HOUSING 100 Report details the positive journey that the New South Wales new home building sector has been on in recent years. The market share of the largest 20 builders remained steady at 27 per cent in 2017/18, despite new dwelling starts falling by an estimated 9 per cent to 67,885,” Craig said.
Results in the report also indicated that the 2017/18 year was the strongest for detached house builders in the last 18 years, with 222,000 new homes commenced.
