Get Your Hand On One campaign raises over $22K for Prostate Cancer Alliance

Out of the Square Media (OOTS) immortalised Newcastle’s Queens Wharf Tower in a limited-edition bottle opener to mark a moment in Newcastle’s history, raise funds for prostate cancer and generate a laugh along the way.

OOTS Managing Director, Marty Adnum said that he was proud to see the whole Newcastle community get behind the campaign.

“As much as this was our initiative, it really is thanks to the proud Novacastrians, with a good sense of humour, that got behind this,” Marty said.

“We contributed over $15K in services at no charge to ensure absolutely everything, other than the actual manufacturing and packaging, went towards making this significant donation.”

The bottle openers were manufactured in Newcastle out of OOTS’ desire to keep the project local. The campaign supported local businesses and a local cause with the funds staying in the region.

“We had hoped to sell 1,000 over September, which is Prostate Cancer Awareness month,” Marty said.

“However, we sold nearly 1,000 in the first 24 hours. The close of the sale coincided with the demolition of the tower and, in the end, it was closer to 3,000 sold in just three weeks.”

“It was really heart-warming to see Novocastrians contribute so willingly and enthusiastically. From starting with a simple idea, it makes us feel very proud, as an organisation, to have brought this project to fruition and give back to the community.”

The campaign raised a total of $22,193 for Hunter Prostate Cancer Alliance.

CEO of Hunter Prostate Cancer Alliance, Cary Lee said the opportunity to be part of the campaign came out of the blue.

“It’s a real credit to the initiative and creativity of OOTS, and was clearly in line with our values. We thank the community for getting behind it and generating this phenomenal donation,” Cary said.

“We pride ourselves in our local roots and also being a bit cheeky in delivering our life saving message. Most importantly, this also gets people talking which leads to conversations about health, and ultimately to get men to take action.”
