Local Certified Financial Planner, Elliot Watson launched Elliot Watson Financial Planning five years ago on 29 February 2016, with the goal to provide tailored and comprehensive financial planning advice to the people of Newcastle and the Hunter.
Five years later, Elliot’s business offering has expanded from one to five businesses including; Watson Wealth which incorporates Watson Mortgages, Watson Legal, Elliot Watson Financial Planning and Singleton Financial Planning.
In this time his business has expanded from one employee to ten, with the growth of one location to three.
Elliot says the business transformation was driven from a commitment to servicing a range of client needs and requests.
“We’ve grown the business and our offerings to help clients achieve more with their finances. We work hard to build rapport and trust with our clients,” Elliot said.
“Clients are increasingly time poor and appreciate the ability to get financial, mortgage and legal advice from someone they already have an existing relationship with.”
Initially the focus was on financial planning, but Elliot identified the need for clients to have all their financial affairs taken care of by a central hub, to stop things falling through the cracks. As a result, he launched Watson Wealth.
“I regularly observed that I would suggest to clients they should have their mortgage interest rate reviewed for a cheaper rate, but they’d come back for their next annual review and say they just hadn’t got around to it,” he said.
“With in-house mortgage broking now available we can help take away any barriers to action that clients have, and ultimately help improve their financial position further.”
Elliot’s business success has not gone unnoticed. Over the five years, their team has won RI Advice Practice of the Year in 2017 and 2019.
Additionally, Elliot was the first person in the AFA’s history to be an AFA Adviser of the Year, and a top three finalist for two years in a row.
“I am proud of the business we’ve built and the recognition we’ve received,” he concluded.
Elliot says that they will be looking to expand the business by adding more brokers, advisers and solicitors over the coming years, as well as increasing their geographic market.
