Burton Automotive continues support for Hunter Valley Steamfest 2025

The sights, sounds, and steam of yesteryear will return to Maitland when Burton Automotive Hunter Valley Steamfest takes place on Saturday, 12 and Sunday, 13 April 2025.

Longtime supporter Burton Automotive Group has reaffirmed its commitment as naming rights sponsor, continuing its partnership with the much-loved event that draws thousands of visitors and train enthusiasts each year.

Burton Automotive Dealer Principal, Norm Burton OAM, said Steamfest remains an important tribute to the region’s rail history.

“We are excited to continue our proud and longstanding partnership with Steamfest,” Norm said.

“Aside from the wonderful spectacle for our community to enjoy, it is a fantastic way to showcase our history and the vital role of rail in shaping Maitland and the Hunter Valley into the place we call home today.”

Steam trains, classic cars, and family fun

Train enthusiasts can look forward to an exciting rail program, with locomotives 3265 and 3526 joining the lineup for heritage train journeys across the Hunter, including routes to Branxton, Paterson, and Port Waratah.

A major highlight of the weekend will be the annual ARTC Great Train Race, where two steam locomotives will go head-to-head against a Tiger Moth aeroplane in a thrilling battle of speed and steam.

Beyond the rail action, visitors can explore The Bloomfield Group Steam Rally, held at the newly named Garnham Grounds—a tribute to former long-serving Steamfest Chairman Peter Garnham and his wife Kelly for their dedication to the event. The rally will feature antique machinery, steam-powered engines, and more.

Car lovers can enjoy the Altapac Show ‘n’ Shine on Sunday, 13 April, with over 500 classic cars on display, alongside food stalls, live entertainment, and family-friendly activities.

A continued legacy for Maitland

New Steamfest Chairman, Councillor Ken Jordan, who has taken over from Peter Garnham, said he was excited to continue building on the event’s success.

“Steamfest is not just about celebrating our steam heritage—it’s about bringing people together, supporting local businesses, and showcasing Maitland as a must-visit destination,” Ken said.

“I look forward to playing a role in its continued success and ensuring it remains a highlight of our regional events calendar.”

Maitland is the focus of a diversity of economic activities including agriculture, tourism, mining, manufacturing, transport and construction industries. Arguably Maitland’s greatest asset is its location on the rich alluvial flats of the Hunter and Paterson Rivers. It is one of the most highly productive areas in NSW and a service centre for a rich agricultural hinterland.
