Award finalists have been announced for the annual CBAA Community Radio Awards, with local station 2NURFM being recognised in multiple categories.
Over six million Australians tune into not-for-profit, community-owned, and operated radio services operating across the country each week.
With 27 categories, the CBAA Community Radio Awards aim to celebrate innovation, perseverance, and community champions within the sector.
The CBAA Community Radio Awards showcase the fantastic work happening in community radio stations across the country.
They reflect the sector’s crucial role in providing a platform for local information and news shared by local voices, diverse programming, and Australian and specialist music.
2NURFM have four finalists in the 2020 Awards for the following categories:-
- Excellence in Ethnic and Multicultural Engagement – the Macedonian Program has been running for 42 years and is hosted by Peter Vrtkovski. Peter presents the latest news and happenings to the Hunter Region’s Macedonian community, along with music and community events.
- Excellence in Journalism – Ian Crouch–2NURFM’s News Editor
- Outstanding Volunteer Contribution – Jane Klein– she has been a volunteer at 2NURFM for over 35 years. Jane presents 2NURFM’s Classic Folk program and hosts afternoons on Thursdays and Fridays. She also sits on 2NURFM’s Program Committee.
- Outstanding Youth Contribution – Madelaine McNeill (graduate student and News Presenter).
2NURFM Station Manager, Shane Peak said it is a great honour to be recognised among so many other great and engaging community radio stations.
“I am extremely proud of the 2NURFM team to have four finalists for the 2020 Community Broadcasting Association of Australia Awards,” Shane said.
“Our finalists highlight the diversity, access and quality of community engagement that 2NURFM delivers.”
2NURFM News Director, Ian Crouch, said it is great to see the dedication of their team recognised, as this is what sets their work apart.
“The nominations are recognition of the dedication of the University of Newcastle’s Communication students in the Newsroom, to delivering an excellent local news service to the people of the Hunter Region,” he said.
Winners of the 2020 CBAA Awards will be announced from Monday 2 November 2020.
