Facility Design Group (FDG) has been awarded the contract for the design and construction services for the Singleton Gym and Swim.
Member for Upper Hunter George Souris said the NSW Government is providing $5.7 million through the Hunter Infrastructure Investment Fund (HIIF) and Ravensworth Mine was contributing $200,000 to the project.
“Singleton Council has awarded the contract for detailed design and construction services for the redevelopment to Facility Design Group (FDG),” he said.
“The $5.9 million project will now progress in accordance with the Singleton Gym and Swim Master Plan, adopted by Council in July 2013.
“When complete this will be a first-rate facility for the Upper Hunter.”
Singleton Council General Manager Lindy Hyam said the master plan was prepared by consultants RMP & Associates, Tredwell Management and NBRS in 2012 and incorporates a long term strategy for improvements to the facility to meet the community’s current and future needs.
“It includes building a 350-square metre extension for the fitness centre and provide a new spa, sauna and spin studio,” said said.
“A new program/hydrotherapy pool will be constructed and the existing cr√®che redeveloped as a Learn to Swim lounge and booking office.
“A new cr√®che will be constructed and linked to the existing playground. The outdoor pool will be heated and support facilities upgraded.
“FDG has been involved in the design and construction services for a large number of pools in rural areas such as Broken Hill, Mt Isa, Coffs Harbour, Cobar, West Wyalong, Young, Forbes, Junee as well as a number of urban pool projects.”
Council expects construction on the project will commence in early 2015.
