Port Stephens Council has opened applications for its 2026 Mayoral Academic Scholarship Program, offering financial support and industry connections to local students commencing tertiary studies next year.
Now in its 16th year, the scholarship program has supported more than 180 students, thanks to contributions from local businesses across Port Stephens.
Mayor Leah Anderson said the program is designed to support the next generation of local leaders.
“We know how expensive and overwhelming that first year of study can be. That’s why this program is about giving students a bit of a head start and reminding them that their community is right behind them,” Mayor Anderson said.
Each scholarship is valued at $2,000 and is awarded in partnership with the local business community, offering recipients both financial assistance and the opportunity to connect with industry leaders in their chosen fields.
“It’s not just about the $2,000. It’s about connecting students with local business leaders who genuinely want to see them succeed. That kind of support can be life-changing,” Mayor Anderson said.
“The program aims to pair scholarship recipients with industry professionals in their chosen field, helping to establish a lasting network that can support their future careers.”
Mayor Anderson also thanked the businesses supporting the 2026 round. “Your support means we can continue to invest in our young people and their future,” she said.
Applications for the 2026 scholarships close on Wednesday 3 December 2025. Students living in Port Stephens who plan to commence university or TAFE in 2026 are encouraged to apply.
“If you’re planning to attend university or TAFE next year, please apply. We’d love to hear your story and support you on your journey,” Mayor Anderson concluded.
