Port of Newcastle is inviting charities and not-for-profits to apply for a share of $100,000 in community grants to bring local projects and initiatives to life.
CEO Craig Carmody said the 2025 Your Port, Our Community grants aim to fund programs that reflect the Port’s environmental and social values, strengthen community relationships, and deliver meaningful outcomes.
“From Newcastle to Narrabri and beyond, the Port’s catchment area is as diverse as the people who live here,” Mr Carmody said. “We are calling on organisations across Newcastle, the Hunter, and North-Western NSW to apply for a share of this funding. It’s an opportunity to support projects that improve the wellbeing of the community and create a lasting positive impact.”
Funding is available across three categories – Our People, Our Planet, and Our Partnerships – and can support initiatives ranging from upgrades to facilities, new programs, or expansion of existing projects.
One example of the grant’s impact is Splash of Colour Swimming, which received funding in 2024 to deliver a 12-week learn-to-swim program for people from culturally diverse backgrounds. Founder and Director Ennia Jones said the grant had helped create confidence, wellbeing, and connection for families in the community.
“Parents who once feared the water are now swimming confidently and encouraging their children to take lessons. The support from Port of Newcastle has strengthened community connections and created a legacy of safety and belonging that will benefit the region for years to come,” Ms Jones said.
The 2025 grants complement the $1 million Newcastle Port Community Contribution Fund, administered by the NSW Government, continuing the Port’s commitment to supporting local communities and initiatives.
Applications for the 2025 Your Port, Our Community grants are now open.
