Grassroots organisations in Newcastle are encouraged to apply for the Port Authority of NSW’s Community Grants program, with up to $15,000 in funding available for local initiatives that support community wellbeing, sustainability, and connection.
Applications are now open and will close on 20 May 2025.
Port Authority Acting Chief Executive Officer John McKenna said the program highlights the organisation’s commitment to giving back to communities connected to its operations.
“Our ports are strongly linked to our communities and our Community Grants program gives us an opportunity to give back to important local initiatives,” Mr McKenna said.
“We are proud to play an active role within our port communities.”
Projects eligible for funding will be assessed by a panel that includes locally based Port Authority staff, with successful recipients to be announced in July.
Grants will be awarded to projects that strengthen community ties, enhance sustainability, or improve wellbeing in areas surrounding the port.
Harbour Master of Port of Newcastle, Captain Vikas Bangia, said the program presents a meaningful opportunity to support initiatives that align with the values of the local community.
“We have a strong community spirit in Newcastle, and many locals have a day-to-day connection with the port,” Captain Bangia said.
“It’s important Port Authority can give back and support initiatives that will have a positive impact for our community.”
