Cessnock Youth Week event highlights young men’s mental health

The Top Blokes Foundation and The Mutual Bank have partnered to host Beats and Eats today at Turner Park, Cessnock, as part of the 2026 Cessnock Youth Week celebrations. The event, running from 10:00am to 1:00pm, focuses on raising awareness for youth mental health and providing local families with access to community support services.

The initiative aligns with this year’s Youth Week theme, “We are the future, and the future is now,” and features live music, sports challenges and interactive stalls. Beyond the activities, the day serves as a connection point for young people to engage with youth workers and regional organisations in a relaxed setting.

Top Blokes Foundation is a youth mental health charity that delivers mentoring programs for young males across the Hunter. Their six-month, school-based programs are led by qualified youth workers and focus on building resilience to navigate challenges including peer pressure, mental health, and healthy relationships.

Chief Member Officer at The Mutual Bank, Matthew Dunnill said supporting regional youth is a core focus for the organisation.

“Partnering with Top Blokes Foundation allows us to help create a space where the community can connect and feel supported without the barrier of cost,” Matthew said.

“We are proud to help facilitate an event in Cessnock that encourages meaningful conversations while providing a positive day out for families.”

Regional Coordinator for the Greater Hunter at Top Blokes Foundation, Aaron O’Driscoll said Youth Week is an opportunity to acknowledge the specific pressures young people face daily.

“Partnering with The Mutual Bank allows us to step outside the classroom and connect with young people and their families in an inclusive setting,” Aaron said.

“Together, we are creating opportunities that help young men feel heard and equipped with the tools to thrive.”

The event is open to the public and includes a range of activities designed to encourage community participation and peer connection. By establishing these local networks, the organisers aim to strengthen the long-term impact of mental health support across the Cessnock region.
