New business, AutoSelect, grows in midst of crisis

After overcoming the closure of his former workplace due to COVID-19, Brendan Dooley decided to use his 30 years of work in the motor vehicle industry to start his own car buying and brokering business.

Brendan and Angela Dooley established AutoSelect Newcastle in May and have already helped dozens of local people save money, time, and stress on the purchase of their new car.

AutoSelect Newcastle is an independent car buying service that specialises in working with clients to do all the legwork from sourcing the right car, negotiating a good deal, trade disposal and finance options.

With more people staying at home during the pandemic, Brendan discovered additional benefits of a personalised car buying service.

“Many people don’t like the car buying process even in the best of times, but the COVID crisis also presented additional challenges in terms of social distance and accessing stock,” Brendan said.

“AutoSelect Newcastle works with dealers to access vehicles of all makes and models. That means that our customers have the convenience of a car broker network that is also a contact free buying experience that is safe.”

To open a business during a pandemic was a massive risk, however, it is paying off.

“We were understandably concerned, as no one really knew what was to come, but we have been constantly busy with no sign of slowing,” he said.

Brendan worked for Auto Advantage until it was closed in Newcastle by its owners AP Eagers when the pandemic began to close many businesses.

“We have seen an increase in car sales, particularly for people who are looking for an upgrade to tow a caravan, or something a bit more practical for taking to the roads (or off roads) and getting away for a few days.”

“Business sales have also been strong with utilities and vans in demand for industries in the building and logistics sectors,” Brendan concluded.
