The past two weeks has seen the world change for individuals, small businesses and corporate Australia in a way we never thought possible and one lady at the frontline of this change is offering financial and career help – all free of charge.
Mum of two and Director of A.I.R Recruitment, Suzie Ninevski, recalls the heart-breaking calls from individuals during this time as the catalyst to provide further support.
“Over recent weeks, I’ve taken so many calls where both parents have lost their jobs. That’s both jobs in one household. It’s heartbreaking,” Suzie said.
“It’s vitally important during these difficult and unprecedented times that we all support each other and lend a hand where possible.
“For weeks I have been seeing the huge impact on families and their budgets, both locally and nationally, from this COVID-19 crisis. I want to give back and support communities in any way possible,” she said.
Spurned on to do whatever she could to help, Suzie contacted her State Member, Sonia Hornery MP for advice and assistance.
Sonia Hornery said that her office were working hard to find solutions and identify areas that need ongoing support.
“My office has been working closely with the community, local groups and service providers to identify who in the community may be struggling and are in need of assistance,” she said.
“The Wallsend electorate is a very close-knit community and when times are tough, we stick together.
“Suzie and AIR Recruitment have been part of that community for many years. Despite the tough times for many local businesses, Suzie has generously given $1000 worth of vouchers to be distributed to those in genuine need over the coming week and months.”
Suzie said that providing food vouchers to keep people healthy, whilst also supporting other businesses was a win-win solution that she was happy to offer those in need.
“Sonia was immediately supportive of anything we could do to assist. I just really wanted to do something real that would make a difference. No one could ever have predicted the situation we are now in,” she said.
Over the coming months, Sonia and Suzie will work closely on volunteer initiatives to help those in need. Those who need extra assistance and support are also encouraged to reach out to Sonia’s office.
“I would encourage anyone who can assist by purchasing or donating food vouchers to please become involved. We all need to stand up at the moment and support each other. We are being asked to physically distance from each other, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t socially be there for one another,” Sonia said.
As part of her bid to offer further assistance, A.I.R Recruitment are also providing free reviews, advice and guidance on resumes to get people back in the workforce.
“I’ve had many job seekers call me just for a chat, and I encourage this because not everyone has someone to turn to,” Suzie said.
“If I can lend an ear and offer support or guidance, I’m more than happy to do so. For many people being without a job and back out in such a depressed job market is so foreign.
“We’re here to help with updating your résumé, creating an online job seeker profile, and just being there to hold your hand.”
Sonia said that the action taken by Suzie reflects the great community and camaraderie that makes Wallsend so special.
“This is such a wonderful show of community spirit and I thank Suzie from the bottom of my heart from all those in the Wallsend Electorate,” Sonia concluded.
