IMB Bank Community Foundation Announces Over $700,000 in Grants for Not-for-Profit Community Groups

The IMB Bank Community Foundation has launched its 2025 grant program, offering over $700,000 in funding for not-for-profit organisations. This grant opportunity comes at a critical time as communities face growing challenges such as high cost-of-living, increased homelessness, and environmental concerns.

For more than 25 years, the IMB Bank Community Foundation has provided essential support to local not-for-profit organisations, funding over 1,000 projects and contributing more than $12 million to strengthen communities.

In 2025, the Foundation will focus its funding on a range of impactful projects across six key themes: social, environmental, cultural, educational, community development, and community connection. These areas are crucial to building resilient and sustainable communities.

Robert Ryan, Chief Executive of IMB Bank, highlighted the importance of continuing to support community organisations at a time when they are facing increased financial pressures.

“We know that many people are struggling, particularly with the current cost-of-living pressures. Our community and charity organisations are finding it harder than ever to raise the necessary funds to deliver essential programs and resources. That’s why it’s vital that we continue to provide funding support to local heroes who are delivering tangible, positive change where we live and work,” said Mr Ryan.

In 2024, the IMB Bank Community Foundation supported a variety of transformative projects. Among the recipients was the Lake Macquarie Suicide Prevention & Support Network, which used its grant to fund staff volunteers at a new facility for those at risk, aiming to reduce the rising suicide rate in the region.

Another recipient, Live Free, based in Newcastle, received a grant to support their ‘Shine Bright Mentoring Program’. This program has engaged over 700 students and 120 carers, helping victims of trauma, domestic violence, and family violence rebuild their lives.

In 2024, the Foundation funded 58 projects, focusing on diverse issues from supporting domestic violence survivors to improving environmental programs and providing free eye checks to the homeless. These projects demonstrate the Foundation’s commitment to addressing evolving community needs and making a lasting impact.

Jann Gardner, Chair of the IMB Community Foundation, shared the Foundation’s ongoing dedication to responding to the challenges of the day.

“We have evolved alongside the communities we serve and address the most pressing issues of the time. The impact of the 1,000+ projects we’ve funded extends far beyond the initial investment, helping to make our communities more empowered, connected, inclusive, and sustainable,” said Ms Gardner.

Applications for the 2025 grant program are now open and will close on 15 June 2025. Not-for-profit community organisations across the Illawarra, Greater Sydney, ACT, Newcastle, and Melbourne are encouraged to apply.
