GWG Recruitment, a multi-sector recruitment firm servicing Newcastle, the Hunter and wider NSW has celebrated its 10-year anniversary this month.
GWG was founded in 2012 by media and technology executive James Grierson, who partnered with local recruitment leader, Julie Gearie.
GWG Founder and Chairman, James Grierson said he’s always believed that effective recruitment is the foundation of assembling great teams.
“But as a long-time client of recruitment agencies, I had mixed experiences,” James said.
“It was clear to me back in 2011 there was an opportunity to build a locally focused offering as an alternative to the multinational agencies.”
GWG is now one of the largest recruitment providers in the Hunter with a team of 16, supporting professional, trade and contract recruitment across more than 20 sectors.
“Within the first few months, I partnered with Julie Gearie, who came highly recommended by countless people in the industry,” James said.
“We put our heads together and built the company from the ground up, based on the diverse knowledge from our respective careers.
“I’m extremely appreciative of Julie and our team, past and present. It’s their contribution in listening, adapting, and evolving our business in line with our customer’s and market needs which has helped us to stay at the forefront of the industry.”
The company has achieved consistent long-term growth of over 20 per cent per annum for a decade including 16 per cent revenue growth in both the 2020 and 2021 financial years during COVID.
CEO, Julie Gearie said GWG’s success can also be attributed to their successful client and candidate partnerships.
“I am so grateful to our clients, contractors, and candidates, many of whom have been with us since the early days. It’s their support and recognition that has enabled us to grow,” Julie said.
“We have built a diverse customer base comprised of large corporate, industrial and government organisations with low concentration risk.
“That said, we’re just warming up, and we know our best days are ahead of us.”
As GWG clocks a decade, Julie said it’s been another bumper year.
“Permanent positions are up 200 per cent, and contract roles are up 50 per cent year on year.”
“We’ve experienced strong growth across all sectors, particularly in our Information Technology, Engineering and Executive portfolios.
“In response to the buoyant job market, we’ve doubled our recruitment team and appointed three new directors, to support the high demand for talent across the region.
“This new structure will allow us to build deeper talent pools and continue to deliver on hard-to-fill roles.”
Over the past two years, the organisation has expanded into manufacturing, trades and labour and invested in new technology to extend candidate engagement and reach.
“Demand for talent across manufacturing, construction, trades and labour remain strong, and these sectors are now some of the fastest-growing areas of our business,” James said.
“We are also investing in key technologies and marketing campaigns to encourage candidates to move into the region and target high-demand skills.”
