The Hunter-based Greater Building Society has again thrown its support behind the region’s premier athletics meet.
The Greater has been the major sponsor of the annual Hunter Track Classic for four consecutive years. This will be the fifth year the event has been held, taking place on January 17 and 18 at the Newcastle Athletics Field and Glendale Sports Centre.
Hunter Track Classic organiser and elite marathoner Scott Westcott said the event is widely regarded within the elite athletics community as being the most popular meet of the domestic season. It is part of Athletics Australia’s National Athletics Series.
Greater Building Society partnerships manager Steve Goverd said the Greater saw the event as important for the athletics community as well as the local economy.
“Holding such a premier meet in our region inspires young local athletes but all brings athletes and visitors to stay and spend money in our region,” Steve said.
The Greater also supports local athletes and sporting organisations through its annual Olympic Scholarships as well as its sponsorship of the Hunter Academy of Sport, Newcastle and Hunter Rugby Union and this month’s Greater Building Society Lake Macquarie Women’s and Men’s Amateur Golf Championships.
Other local organisations getting behind the event are:
- ibis Newcastle
- Toronto Tyrepower
- Secure Scaffolding
- Lawrence, Rundle, Rapson Accountants and Business Advisors
- Greg Tyler and Associates Solicitors and Mediators
- Lake Macquarie Council
