Hunter-based electrical engineering company Ampcontrol has been named Mining Supplier of the Year at the NSW Mining Industry and Suppliers Awards 2020.
With a renewed focus on advanced manufacturing expertise and capability in Australia, the industry accolade comes off the back of Ampcontrol designing and building life-saving emergency ventilators in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The NSW Minerals Council announced the winners in four categories for 2020, in a special live-stream event held on Thursday, 18 June 2020.
Accepting the award at the online ceremony, Ampcontrol Managing Director and CEO, Rod Henderson said the team were overjoyed by the industry recognition.
“We are thrilled to receive this highly regarded industry recognition for being an innovative solutions provider for our customers,” Rod said.
“What the last few months have shown through these challenging times is the incredible ingenuity and agility of manufacturing and technology in Australia.”
Ampcontrol took out the NSW Mining Supplier of the Year category for the development and deployment of Rockstarter.
This is a multi-functional outlet starter designed for use in underground hard rock mines, which highlights Ampcontrol’s ongoing commitment to research and development across NSW and the globe.
“We have such highly advanced expertise, skill, and ability in our country, this recognition is testament to the hard-working and innovative people that power our resources sector,” he said.
NSW Minerals Council CEO, Stephen Galilee, acknowledged all the finalists and those working in mining across NSW who have risen to the challenge of operating during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The first half of 2020 has been tough. We’ve endured terrible bushfires off the back of a severe drought, followed by a global health crisis,” Stephen said.
“During the COVID-19 pandemic, our miners have kept operating under strict health and safety protocols, and that has helped protect jobs, support local communities, and maintain our contribution to the NSW economy.”
The prestigious award from the NSW Minerals Council follows two Good Design Awards wins for the Ampcontrol Rockstarter in the Engineering Design and Product Design categories in 2019.
Australian owned and operated, Ampcontrol is a leading global manufacturer of electrical and electronic equipment in the resources, infrastructure, and energy sectors.
