Alena Pople appointed as General Manager of Hunter Region Business Hub

The Board of the Hunter Region Business Hub (HRBH) has appointed Alena Pople as its new General Manager. Alena commenced the role on Monday, 9 March 2026.

Alena is a regional leader with more than 20 years of experience across economic development, tourism, marketing and community engagement. She brings a record in business support, revenue development and strategic growth to the position. Her skills align with the mission of the HRBH to empower and connect small businesses across the Hunter region.

Alena has extensive experience working with government, industry and community partners to strengthen local economies. She has developed business support programs, coordinated jobs forums and led marketing campaigns including Support Local initiatives.

Alena joined the team following senior roles with Cessnock City Council, Roche Group and Salter Brothers Hospitality. In these positions, she led regional marketing strategy, economic development initiatives and major grant programs. Her blend of commercial acumen, governance experience and community focus made her the ideal candidate to lead the organisation.

Chair of the Board, Kavita Payall said Alena brings proven experience in strategic leadership and stakeholder engagement.

“Her ability to connect strategy with practical outcomes for local business will be invaluable as we continue to grow membership and strengthen partnerships,” Kavita said.

“Alena will help us deliver high-quality programs and events.”

The appointment signals a commitment to sustainable growth, collaboration and innovation for the Hunter business ecosystem. Over the coming months, Alena will reach out to members, councils and business stakeholders.

Alena said she is proud to step into the role and is passionate about ensuring small businesses have access to practical support.

“Small businesses are the backbone of our regional economy. I look forward to working closely with our board, members and partners to ensure the Hub continues to be a trusted and impactful organisation,” Alena said.

“We want to strengthen our value proposition for businesses across the Hunter Valley.”

Hunter Region Business Hub

The Hunter Region Business Hub, located in Kurri Kurri, New South Wales is one of over 30 community-based Business Enterprise Centres (BEC) operating Australia wide. The Hub supports new and existing micro, small and medium businesses with practical assistance including digital, business planning, marketing, budgeting and cash flow.

Created as a result of an initiative from local businesses in conjunction with Cessnock and Maitland City Council to drive economic development. The Hub services Maitland, Cessnock, Dungog, Singleton, Muswellbrook and Upper Hunter Local Government Areas.

All support is independent, confidential and affordable. The Hub can assist with the establishment of new small business enterprises, as well as existing small to medium enterprises who are experiencing issues, want to grow, or just want to be better. Businesses can also take advantage of our business workshops and information seminars.

The Hub houses 32 units in office, commercial and light industrial premises, offering economical, easy-leasing arrangements.
