Daracon Group has secured $11,200 in Smart and Skilled government funding to deliver a new pilot initiative designed to prepare entrants for the civil construction industry. The Role Ready Program, delivered in partnership with Major Training Group, provides eight participants with foundational skills and nationally accredited training.
The program supports individuals new to the sector by providing entry-level units including manual excavation, safety observing and identifying underground services. Participants also completed training for working in confined spaces and at heights to prepare for on-site requirements.
Regional Manager of Training Services for the Hunter and Central Coast, Liana Nadalin said the initiative gives job seekers a clear pathway into the industry.
“Programs like this empower individuals and help strengthen economic outcomes for the region, particularly in the Hunter where a pipeline of infrastructure projects continues to create demand for skilled workers,” Liana said.
The pilot group included five participants who previously took part in the 2025 Career Starter Program, an initiative aimed at raising industry awareness across Hunter Academy of STEM Excellence high schools.
Training Development Lead at Daracon Group, Georgina Evans said the company provides pathways for people at all stages of life, from school leavers to mature-age participants.
“The Role Ready program delivers a strong foundation for anyone wanting to enter civil construction regardless of their background,” Georgina said.
“It is exciting to see every participant prepared to step into a new career with us through apprenticeships, traineeships and internal technical pathways.”
The training involved a blended approach with formal learning at the Major Training Group facility in Beresfield and workplace experience at local project sites.
Key Partnerships Manager from Major Training Group, Traci McGee said the collaboration creates meaningful workforce pathways by connecting structured training with real workplace experience.
“Participants are actively developing the skills needed to succeed while employers play a direct role in shaping future talent,” Traci said.
Daracon Group has operated in the regional civil construction sector for more than 40 years. The successful completion of the pilot program ensures all eight participants are now positioned to begin technical roles within the organisation’s Hunter-based projects.
