Long-standing member of the Greater Bank family and Greater Charitable Foundation Chairman, Ian Nelmes, has announced his retirement after six years in the position.
Ian was a Director of Greater Bank from 1980 to 2010 and retired after 30 years of service, 22 years of which he was Chairman. His work with the organisation continued after joining the Foundation’s Board of Directors when it was established in late 2010.
He has had a major impact on guiding the charitable organisation’s vision and direction over the past eight years. Most notably with his focus on creating a culture that encouraged employee interest in the work of the foundation’s charity partners.
His contribution to the organisation is recognised through the Ian Nelmes Excellence Award which was established in 2010 to acknowledge extraordinary employee contribution. Nominations for the award will be called in the coming weeks.
Anne Thurlow, a member of the Foundation since its inception, has been appointed as the new Chairperson.
Ian said he was happy to see Anne taking on the role.
“Whilst I am extremely saddened to be leaving my post as Chairman, I am comforted that Anne will be taking over the reins. I couldn’t think of a more qualified professional to assume the position and look forward to seeing the direction in which she takes the Foundation,” Ian said.
Having been a Greater Bank Director for more than 20 years and with a career that spans more than 40 years in the financial services sector, Anne brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to her new position and is excited to continue her work with the Foundation.
Greater Charitable Foundation is set to announce its 2018 charity partners at the end of July, following an application process that closed in March.
“This year we are again looking to support charities that are working to improve life outcomes and deliver long-lasting change in our communities,” Anne said.
The latest funding round will take the Foundation’s financial commitment to charitable groups across NSW and South-East Queensland to more than $8 million since 2011.
