The Newcastle Business Club has recognised individuals and an organisation that have contributed to the commonweal of Newcastle and the wider Hunter region at its November Luncheon.
The Man Shake was announced by President of Newcastle Business Club, Dene Kilpatrick as the winner of the Organisational Award.
In presenting the award he said that The Man Shake performs an important role in promoting health and wellbeing, but has also raised the profile of the Hunter region, nationally.
“Established by former Newcastle Knights player, Adam MacDougall, The Man Shake was created to make weight loss for men simple and achievable,” Dene said.
“Originally launched in the Hunter region, The Man Shake has gained notoriety nationwide and has helped to continue to lift the profile of the local region as a location of choice for national brands.
“Beyond the product itself, The Man Shake has played a pivotal role in educating the community about good health practices. The Man Shake has also played an important role in supporting local charitable efforts and the Newcastle Knights. Over a 12-month period, the organisation donated over $250k to charities, including to the Mark Hughes Foundation and Camp Quality.”
The Individual Award was awarded to Jillian Dwyer, a consummate professional who is revered by her peers and clients. She is a specialist in the field of Self-Managed Superannuation and credentialed with CPA Australia as a Certified Practicing Accountant. She is highly regarded as an advisor to the advisors.
“In addition to her day job, Jillian is the first ever female president of the Newcastle Junior Cricket Association and has been instrumental in implementing a new junior format to inspire kids to become involved in cricket,” Dene said.
“NSW Cricket CEO, Andrew Jones, has been seeking direct feedback from Jillian in relation to NSW junior cricket and is rolling out the new format across the state. It is because of her long standing influence at the state level and her impact at the local level that she was highly regarded for this award.”
The final award for the day, the Youth Award was presented to Hanna Barry, Assistant Manager and a Chartered Accountant at PKF Sydney and Newcastle.
“A community spirited individual, Hanna has made a strong commitment to the Hunter region through her roles both as a trainer and as a volunteer board member. 2017 marks the fourth year that Hanna has held a position on the Hunter Young Professionals Board for which she currently holds the title of Vice President,” Dene said.
“In addition, Hanna is the Treasurer of Renew Newcastle, an organisation established to connect people with spaces, supporting a community of creative entrepreneurs who bring life, interest and activity into under utilised neighbourhoods.”
The Newcastle Business Club Annual Awards recognise a younger (under 35) person, an individual and a company/organisation each year who have made a significant contribution toward the improvement of industry, culture, education, sport or the overall wellbeing of the citizens of Newcastle.
Each award winner is presented with a framed photograph of The Summer House by E.Hilda Rix- Nicholas, as well as an overview of their recognised accomplishments. The original painting was purchased in 1976 by the Newcastle Business Club and presented to Newcastle Region Art Gallery for the benefit of the people of the region. It is a lasting gift to mark the inauguration of the Annual
Award to an individual and organisation from the region who (or which) has made a major contribution to the commonweal of the city.
