Newcastle’s Darby Street is set to welcome a new business; this time a dentist. Garreth McBride will open the doors to The Good Dentist in early February with overall patient well-being and online technology both key focuses of his business.
Garreth said he established The Good Dentist to challenge the old ‘fill, drill and bill’ approach of the dental industry.
“At The Good Dentist, we aim to not only treat a patient’s dental symptom but work to understand how their dental health is affecting their overall well-being too,” Garreth said.
“My aim is to improve my patients’ ‘Dental IQ’ by discussing their dental treatment with them in layman’s terms that are easy to understand.”
“I feel communication is a really important part of fostering good patient relationships and we’ve employed online and social media technology to improve our business practices and communication with patients.”
The dental practice will utilise an online booking system which gives patients the option to choose a free pick up from a local Uber car within a five-kilometre radius of the surgery. The Good Dentist works with Uber drivers locally to ensure each patient has a first-class experience from door to door.
Patients of The Good Dentist can also send Garreth a Snapchat video with a question or any concern they may have about their teeth or their dental care. This Snapchat service links back to Garreth’s mission of making communication with patients more personal and supportive.
When working on the design and fit-out of the dental practice, Garreth said he really wanted to make patients feel comfortable and happy to come to the dentist. “I chose some really lovely, homely type interiors for the practice and as a result it feels more like a day spa than a clinical, white dental surgery. There’s a fantastic vertical garden in reception, iPads for the kids to play with and each patient will be welcome to help themselves to fresh, locally-produced Kombucha. It will really be a nice way to start your visit to the dentist,” Garreth said.
