ConnectAbility encourage businesses to ‘do lunch’

ConnectAbility Australia are encouraging Hunter businesses to take their employees out to lunch this Friday and support their Dine Out for Disability initiative.

For the fourth year running the event is supported by the Newcastle and Hunter Australian Hotels Association (AHA) with almost 100 hotels from across the Hunter region participating by donating $1 from each meal purchased over the weekend of 4-6 October 2013.

Acting General Manager Scott Harvey said the initiative provided businesses with the opportunity to reward their staff, whilst supporting a local community organisation.

“We think this is a great way for Hunter businesses to get involved, just by ducking out at lunch time for a bite to eat,” Scott said.

“There are participating hotels across the entire Hunter region, so businesses can choose a lunch location that is close by.”

“We also encourage people to take their friends and families out for lunch or dinner over the long weekend and choose a Hotel that is supporting our fundraising efforts.”

ConnectAbility Australia is a not for profit disability service supporting people with high to very high support needs overcome barriers to achieving their goals and dreams.

This year the funds raised will be used to buy a modified vehicle to assist people to get out into their communities when they require and providing them with independence and control over their lives.

In previous years ConnectAbility has been able to purchase and modify a bus, install a fully accessible kitchen and provide recreational and sports equipment that has helped people connect to their community and improve their fitness and wellbeing

“The support of the Newcastle and Hunter Australian Hotels Association and the community are making a huge difference in the lives of local people,” Scott said.

“The owners, publicans and staff really get behind supporting their communities and this event is something they plan for. Many of the Hotels are doing something special over this weekend so people should have a look at what is on at their favourite venue”

Dine Out for Disability runs from Friday 4 October until Sunday 6 October and a full list of participating hotels can be found on their website.

Over the past three years, Hotels from all over the hunter have donated $1.00 from every meal and together we can continue to make a difference in the lives of local people with your support.
