Salvos Legal opens office in Newcastle

Award-winning law firm, Salvos Legal, has opened an office in Newcastle.

Recognised last month as the 2014 Law Firm of the Year at the Australian Law Awards, presented by Lawyers Weekly, Salvos Legal combines commercial and property law alongside humanitarian legal service.

Both arms of the firm are wholly owned by The Salvation Army and was set up in 2010.

Heading the office in Newcastle is senior commercial lawyer Jeranne Kosviner.

Jeranne, previously Special Counsel at Moray & Agnew in Newcastle, has extensive in-house legal experience having worked for large multinationals such as property services group CBRE, industrial chemicals and explosives business Incitec Pivot, and energy management group Schneider Electric.

“I am inspired by the positive effect Salvos Legal has had on communities in other regions and am excited and motivated to create a strong commercial practice here in Newcastle so that those less fortunate in the Hunter region can ultimately benefit from this success,” Jeranne said.

While the Newcastle office has been established to do commercial legal work, the firm will be able to refer humanitarian clients from Newcastle to the firm’s pro bono network.

Under its unique set up, revenue from Salvos Legal (a paid law service focused on commercial and property law) is used to fund Salvos Legal Humanitarian, which does pro bono work throughout New South Wales and Queensland.

Salvos Legal

Salvos Legal are a revolutionary legal practice. They provide quality commercial and property law advice on a paid basis. However, all of their fees (less expenses) fund their 'legal aid' sister firm, Salvos Legal Humanitarian, which is a full service free law firm for the disadvantaged and marginalised. Both firms are wholly owned by The Salvation Army.
