RDA Hunter announces resignation of Chairman

Following the Regional Development Australia (RDA) Hunter board meeting on Friday 7th April, Deputy Chair, John Turner announced the immediate resignation of Chairman Michael Slater based on recent medical advice.

Michael, who was appointed Chairman by Australian and NSW Government Ministers for Regional Development in 2015, informed the Board that he would not complete his term of appointment which was due to conclude on 31st December this year.

On behalf of the Board, John recognised Michael’s contribution to regional economic development during his term as Chairman.

“Mike has been extremely generous with his time, effort and devotion to the region,” Micahel said.

“There is no doubt his leadership as Chairman has greatly contributed to RDA Hunter’s reputation as the foremost economic development organisation in regional Australia.”

During his term, Michael led the economic development agency through an important time for the Hunter’s economy, overseeing many regionally significant projects.

He also provided vital input into Hunter’s priorities to state and federal governments that have informed regional policy.

Michael was also named Business Leader of the Year by both the NSW Business Chamber and the Hunter Business Chamber during his time at RDA Hunter.

RDA Hunter is leading initiatives that will grow and sustain the Hunter’s economy for the future.

Established in 2009 they provide independent advice to all levels of government and our stakeholders on priorities for the Hunter's future.
RDA Hunter works to strengthen the Hunter as a competitive and modern metropolitan centre of excellence. It does this by securing funds for regionally significant infrastructure projects, providing effective connectivity between industry, education and the wider region economy and by driving investment to the Hunter region.
