No job, what now?

No job, what now?

Some help and hope is being offered to local people that have lost their job, with a local recruitment firm offering a free half-day outplacement workshop in Newcastle on Tuesday, 9 September 2014.

Forsythes Recruitment is offering the workshop to help people who have been made redundant or lost their job and have not received outplacement support from their employer.

Organisational Development Manager, Michelle Crawford, said the workshop is designed to help people to plan “what’s next”.

“Participants will receive practical advice from experts in job searching, resume and application writing, and performing at interviews,” Michelle said.

“They are also encouraged to think about different career options and what training or skills development they require. ”

The workshop concept was developed with local human resource practitioner Ben Glashoff, whose position was made redundant this year. Although he received support from his employer he started to hear of and speak with so many other people that received no support.

The workshop is being held again following a successful pilot in August.

Michelle said there have been a number job losses in larger firms publicised in recent months but there are also many other, often smaller, organisations that have laid off staff or shut down. She said those organisations might not have had the ability or the will to offer outplacement services to their staff.

“Losing your job can be one of life’s most stressful events,” Michelle said.

“The experience is different for each person but we will give tools and a pathway to help them to get their career and lives back on track.”

Michelle said the workshop was one way Forsythes Recruitment gives back to the community in which it operates.

Workshops are also planned for the Upper Hunter at the Singleton Information Centre on Monday, 20 October 2014.

Forsythes Recruitment is the Hunter’s largest locally owned and managed recruitment and organisational development firm. Established in 1987, it has an office in Newcastle, Singleton, on the Central Coast and in Sydney.
