Thought leaders from across industry, government, academia and the community recently gathered for Newcastle’s Nexus, an event which celebrates the region’s growing influence and capability on the national and global stage.
Hosted by Arup, the event highlighted Newcastle’s technical excellence, research strength, established industry and skilled talent base that continue to position the city as a centre of ingenuity with global impact.
With representation from the city’s major institutions, local innovators and industry partners, guests heard perspectives on how Newcastle is contributing solutions to some of the world’s biggest challenges. Topics included decarbonisation and climate resilience, advanced manufacturing, health innovation and the transition to sustainable industry, demonstrating the region’s growing influence in shaping a more sustainable and connected global future.
ANZ Water Leader at Arup and moderator for the evening, Steve Adamthwaite said Newcastle is at an exciting point in its journey.
“As a Newcastle local, it’s great to see the momentum build across sectors, and events like this remind us of the power of bringing people together to share ideas and chart what comes next for our region,” Steve said.
The event also raised awareness of Newcastle’s leadership in research, innovation and community, reinforcing the city and region’s reputation as a place where local ideas can achieve global reach.
Contributors on the night included: Dr Sarah Delforce, Research Coordinator (Clinical Research) at NSW Regional Cancer Research Network; Professor Dr Thomas Nann, CEO and Co-Founder at Allegro Energy; Associate Professor Dr Danielle Verdon-Kidd from The University of Newcastle; and Dr Tanja Rosenqvist, Global Research Leader at Arup.
Arup shared its long history of working in the region and highlighted the global contributions of its people including major international projects to demonstrate what can be achieved from Newcastle.
