Newcastle Business Club partners with The Equal Futures Project to present diversity awards

Celebrating business success and individual achievement has been on Newcastle Business Club’s agenda since it was founded 85 years ago.

Beyond the monthly luncheons that bring together professionals and high-profile speakers, the Newcastle Business Club holds its Annual Awards to support and celebrate local business and individual contribution to the community.

This year the Club has expanded its award offering by partnering with The Equal Futures Project to present their Hunter Diversity Awards.

President of Newcastle Business Club and Founder of The Marketing GP, Holly Martin, said the partnership was a reflection of the Club’s own diversity goals.

“Initially Newcastle Business Club was actually a men-only organisation, but in line with changing society expectations it opened up its membership to women,” Holly said. “It is pleasing that in the 85th year of the Club it not only has a female President, but also has a committee with more women than men, for the first time ever.”

“It makes sense to continue this trajectory and collaborate with The Equal Futures Project,” Holly continued.

Chair of The Equal Futures Project and CEO of Hunter Coal Chain Coordinator, Kirsten Molloy, said she is proud to share in an event that celebrates the diversity and success of businesses and people in the Hunter region.

“The Diversity Awards aim to recognise and celebrate the diversity champions among us; those who have discovered what works in making their organisation and/or community a fairer, more equitable and more successful place to live and work,” Kirsten said.

“The partnership with Newcastle Business Club means we can bring the businesses and people who are doing great things for our community together under the one roof.”

The Newcastle Business Club Annual Awards recognise a younger person, an individual and an organisation each year who have made a significant contribution toward commonweal of Newcastle – through the improvement of industry, culture, education, sport or the overall wellbeing of the citizens of Newcastle.

In their fourth year, the Hunter Diversity Awards will recognise an individual and organisational Diversity Champion. The award criteria encourage new ways of thinking about incorporating diversity into business, not just changing policy but changing company culture and being a role model for diversity.

Nominations to the awards are now open.

The Annual Awards will take place at the Club’s July luncheon at Harbourview Function Centre on Thursday 10 July 2018, from 12pm until 2pm.
