One of the Hunter region’s high performing commercial litigation specialists has been nominated twice in this year’s NSW Women Lawyers Achievement Awards.
Susan Moran, Principal of SWS Lawyers Litigation team, has been selected as a finalist in two categories including Regional Lawyer of the Year and Mentor of the Year.
The awards recognise and celebrate the achievements of outstanding women lawyers who have not only excelled in their practice areas but have helped create opportunities for women in the legal profession.
As a specialised commercial litigation lawyer with more than twenty years’ experience, Susan’s work covers a diverse and challenging range of disputes.
Since being admitted to practice in 1997 she has attracted a range of sophisticated and complex legal work, regularly running matters in the NSW Supreme Court and NSW Court of Appeal and is currently awaiting the outcome of a special leave application to the High Court.
“These nominations are unexpected recognition for a profession that I feel passionate about and committed to,” Susan said.
“I believe there’s a personal responsibility to provide younger lawyers with all the support and guidance they need, particularly those who are managing extensive work commitments alongside family responsibilities.”
Her committed approach includes mentoring law students through SWS Lawyers Summer Clerkship Program, and being a strong advocate for recruiting, developing and guiding female lawyers through various stages of their careers.
Susan was also nominated for Regional/Suburban Lawyer of the Year in the recent Lawyers Weekly Australian Law Awards, with SWS Lawyers a finalist for Regional/Suburban Law Firm of the Year.
These national awards recognise individual, team and firm excellence in law, from the profession’s most senior ranks to its rising stars.
SWS Lawyers Managing Principal, Richard Suters, said such industry credit reflects the outstanding efforts and expertise of their experienced team.
“Susan’s three industry nominations recognise her skill and track record as a specialist commercial litigation lawyer, together with her committed and ongoing contribution to mentoring and developing women in the legal profession,” Richard said.
“It’s a great reflection of the quality of work our team delivers along with the strong relationships we develop both within and outside our practice.”
The winners for the NSW Women Lawyers Achievement Awards will be announced at a gala dinner in Sydney tonight – 23 August.
