The Paris Roubaix – known to many as ‘the hell of the North’ is a cycling event that took place Saturday the 9th of April.
The race beginning in Paris and concluding in Roubaix was a gruelling 257km and entails four cobbled sectors.
Walkom Real Estate Director and Salvation Army Advisory Board Member, Scott Walkom has recently travelled to Paris to participate in this year’s ride, as well as the famous Paris De Flanders event.
Scott was raising awareness for the Salvation Army and, through his efforts, has donated $5,000 to the cause.
Scott said that he rode in the events to raise awareness of the services that the Salvation Army provides.
“I trained quite extensively for the gruelling conditions of the event. I also recently spent time in Orange where I participated in the Royal Far West Children’s Ride, so I was feeling ready and prepared,” Scott said.
Although these events are physically and mentally straining, Scott is very familiar with both the rides as he was a competitor last year.
Scott’s commitment to giving to local charities extends beyond his cycling activities. Scott was recently made the Chairman of the Hunter Medical Research Institute, where he aims to assist the foundation in maximising funding for medical research and championing community engagement.
Scott also currently sits on the Salvation Army Advisory Board (Newcastle) and is a member of the Property Council of NSW, CPA Australia, Real Estate Institute of NSW and Newcastle Club.
