The finalist pool for the 2026 Lake Macquarie Business Excellence Awards has been finalised, featuring 65 corporate operations, local small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs), and individual executives. The competitive evaluation framework benchmarks technical innovation, employment strategy, and corporate governance across the city’s broader commercial landscape of more than 14,000 registered businesses.
The micro business and small business fields emerged as the most highly contested categories during the judging panel’s review process, reflecting strong regional activity across the boutique enterprise sector.
Lake Macquarie Mayor, Adam Shultz noted that the intake metrics show sustained commercial confidence and viable corporate scaling pathways across newly established operations.
“Applicants this year really reflect the depth and breadth of Lake Macquarie’s 14,000-plus businesses,” Adam said.
“It was particularly encouraging to see such strong entries in our new business category. It shows not only that people are confident in establishing new enterprises in our city, but when they’re done right they can grow and thrive.”
The finalist streams highlight a diverse cross-section of the regional economy, ranging from specialty environmental control services like Snake Catcher Bronte and retail hospitality operations like Char Char Chicken, through to professional services and medical entities. Previous category winners, including Dental Folk director Quyen Nguyen, returned to the shortlist within the young business leadership category, while Maxi-Jazz Dance Studio principal Ylanda Robinson was named among the senior business leadership finalists.
The program’s corporate underwriting framework includes regional industry partners Dantia, Origin Energy, the Newcastle Herald, University of Newcastle, Charlestown Square by the GPT Group, Lake Mac Holiday Parks, and Ramsay Health Care.
Category winners will be announced at a formal gala dinner on Friday 24 July at the Belmont 16s corporate event venue.
