Sisters power up support for men’s mental health

Sisters Katie Hallinan and Belinda Presland, co-owners of Battery World Maitland, have launched their fourth consecutive annual fundraising initiative supporting men’s mental health research, clinical trials, and education programs delivered by the Black Dog Institute. The 2026 campaign centres on a regional online raffle featuring a $4,000 total prize pool comprising four individual Visa gift cards, structured to provide practical financial relief for local families during rising living costs.

To ensure all proceeds support medical research and community mental health services, Battery World Maitland is absorbing all online ticketing platform fees, allowing 100 per cent of ticket sales to flow directly to the charity. Commercial sponsor VARTA Batteries has backed the initiative by donating over $2,000 in retail product, while the Maitland store is selling branded merchandise including hats, beanies, and umbrellas to expand the campaign’s total contribution.

The raffle campaign closes on 30 November 2026, with the prize draw taking place on Tuesday 1 December 2026. The campaign aligns with broader mental health support channels, encouraging individuals seeking crisis support to contact Lifeline on 13 11 14 or Beyond Blue on 1300 22 4636.

Co-owner of Battery World Maitland, Katie Hallinan stated that small business initiatives help reduce social stigma while providing direct funding for medical research.

“Men’s mental health affects families, workplaces and communities right across Australia, and we believe everyone has a role to play in breaking down stigma and encouraging people to seek support when they need it,” Katie said.

“As a local family business, we wanted to create a fundraiser that would not only raise money for a great cause but also encourage conversations that could genuinely help someone. We know many people are watching every dollar at the moment. Whether it’s putting fuel in the car, paying a bill or buying groceries, these prizes can make a real difference to someone’s day. At the same time, every ticket purchased helps support vital mental health programs and services. The more people who get involved, the bigger impact we can make together.”
