Fine jeweller, Gavin Fisher, has opened the doors to his first-ever boutique, Gavin Fisher Jewellery, located in the heart of Newcastle’s suburb, The Junction.
Gavin will continue designing and hand making the exquisite fine jewellery he has built his reputation on in Sydney and abroad, now with his flagship location in the community.
Gavin Fisher Jewellery is a unique blend of high-end craftsmanship in a classic style with a modern twist.
He began his jewellery career in Sydney in 1996, learning traditional and modern manufacturing techniques as well as gemstone appreciation.
His more than 25 year career boasts international appointments in both Vancouver and then New York, where Gavin was appointed Master Jeweller at the prestigious Greenwich Street Jewelers.
Gavin returned to Sydney nine years ago, running his custom jewellery studio on Castlereagh Street. Recently moving to Newcastle with his wife and two young daughters, the boutique is his first foray into the world of retail.
“It was a family decision to move coastal and coming from Sydney, we still wanted that metropolitan feel with everything very accessible. Once we moved here, we just keep discovering more and more of Newcastle that we love,” Gavin said.
“To open a storefront has been a dream of mine for a while now. Working solely as a custom jeweller and designer for many years, this is the change that I needed. The store is looking great and there has already been a lot of interest.
“I wanted to bring a homely, welcoming feel to the store that is not typical of a jewellery store. Also, most jewellery stores have the same stock standard suppliers meaning that there isn’t much difference in what you see in their cabinets from store to store.
“I have decided to go full independent in terms of what pieces I have in my showcases. There are only pieces that I have made and a curated selection of independent designers that you won’t find anywhere else.
“I’m really looking forward to the next chapter and getting to know the community and greater Hunter better. I do feel that I bring something unique to the area, being a jeweller, designer and the face that you’ll see when you walk into the store.”
Gavin Fisher Jewellery includes an on-site workshop and offers full service jewellery repair, resizing, remodeling, restoration and resetting.
The boutique is designed atypically of a jewellery store, with a welcoming homey feel. And for the first time, Fisher is showcasing a collection of upscale ready-to-wear jewellery with precious metals and gemstones from a curated selection of all Australian independent designers exclusive to his store.
