Nine emerging Indigenous creatives from across New South Wales have been selected as finalists for the 2026 Indigenous Storytellers Scholarship. Presented by Façon Magazine and funded by Greater Bank, the professional development initiative is in its fourth operational year, providing structured corporate mentoring, artistic portfolio development, and financial capital to regional First Nations creators.
The scholarship framework links emerging talent with established professionals across nine creative disciplines, including fashion design, cinematography, literature, and digital art. Under the 2026 funding model, eight finalists will each secure a $1,000 grant, while one major scholarship recipient will receive a $10,000 endowment to advance their commercial creative practice.
Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Façon Australia, Lara Lupish said the program establishes structured professional pathways within the national creative economy.
“The Indigenous Storytellers Scholarship is about more than recognising talent, it’s about investing in future creative leaders and ensuring Indigenous stories continue to be shared,” Lara said.
“The calibre of mentors involved this year reflects the importance of nurturing emerging Indigenous creatives and providing opportunities that can genuinely shape careers.
“We are incredibly proud of this year’s finalists and look forward to seeing how they grow throughout the program.”
Head of Community and Sustainability at NGM Group, Kirrah McClelland noted that institutional support for cultural storytelling projects strengthens the regional arts infrastructure.
“The originality, skill and vision shown by each of the finalists is truly inspiring,” Kirrah said.
“We’re proud to support them and are excited to watch them continue to grow and thrive through these mentorships.”
The final $10,000 scholarship recipient will be announced during NAIDOC Week at the Murrook Culture Centre in Port Stephens following the conclusion of the individual mentorship cycles.
