Last week Hunter Homeless Connect Inc (HHC) launched their crowdfunding campaign to raise funds to print copies of “My Connections Home ‚Äì journeys through homelessness“.
The book shares nine local Hunter residents’ powerful and inspiring true stories about breaking the cycle of homelessness along with insights into the history and impact Hunter Homeless Connect Day has each year in the Hunter region. All photographs were taken by local professional photographers who gave freely of their time and skills to support the cause.
In order to raise funds to print copies of the book as well as contribute to the funding of the annual HHC Day undertaking a 6-week crowdfunding campaign through Chuffed.org.
“We want to raise $10,000 to publish My Connections Home to share the stories of these formerly homeless people and how they rebuilt their lives,” HHC Chairperson, Kieran O’Donoghue, said. “It’s a testament to their courage and tenacity and gives an insight into how easily homelessness can occur. We hope these stories will engender more compassion for people experiences homelessness.”
HHC want to use the book to not only raise funds, but to raise awareness and a greater understanding of what homelessness is.
“We would like the book to be a resource and inspiration for those experiencing homelessness to show that it is possible to break the cycle.” Kieran continued.
Contributors to the book include a forward by His Excellency General, The Honourable David Hurley, Compass Housing General manager Greg Budworth, Nova for Women & Children’s Nicola Hirschhorn, Manager of Soul Caf√© Karen Soper and CEO Hunter TAFE Christine Warrington.
HHC is aiming to publish 1,000 copies of the 48-page book. The money raised will fund printing, design, postage and a community launch of the book which will be open to the public.
