Engineers Australia’s Newcastle Division has welcomed its youngest President to date, to serve in 2019.
Joe Townsend has taken on the role of President and will lead an organisation that serves the engineering community from the Hawkesbury River, north to the Queensland border and west to Coonabarabran and has just over 4,100 members.
Engineers Australia’s Newcastle General Manager, Helen Link said it was great to tap into the younger generation of engineers through Joe’s appointment.
“It is great to see such a young engineer becoming involved in leading a division of an organisation that will be celebrating 100 years in 2019; it shows just how encompassing we are of our membership,” Helen said. He will be our youngest serving
Joe said he will continue to drive the division’s strategic priorities while embrace its vision of being the trusted voice of the engineering profession.
“I am looking forward to leading the division throughout 2019 as Engineers Australia celebrates the past, present and future of engineering where anything is possible,” Joe said.
In addition to being its 100th anniversary, 2019 will see Engineers Australia host the World Engineering Conference in November 2019. This event draws engineers from around the world to deliberate Engineering a Sustainable World; the next 100 years.
Living in Regional NSW, Joe has held senior leadership roles across a wide variety of business sectors including property, engineering, facility maintenance, construction, consulting, government, and mission lead organisations. Joe has also had success in growing commercial businesses and community operations.
He is passionate about engineering as a whole-of-life career and is particularly passionate to see young people learn, understand and implement STEM.
Engineers Australia is the largest and most diverse body of engineers in Australia and represents around 100,000 professionals at every level and across all fields of practice.
