Clubs In The Community Charity Race Day raises over $250,000

On Saturday 15 July 2017, the Newcastle Racecourse underwent the annual pink transformation for the 9th Clubs in the Community Charity Race Day in support of the Hunter Breast cancer foundation.

Over the past 9 years the Clubs in the Community Charity Race Day has raised in excess of$250,000 for the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation. This year alone, Clubs of the Hunter handed over a cheque for more than $30,000.

NSW State Councillor for Newcastle and Hunter, Scott Williams said supporting the community is part of the Club industry’s DNA.

“The event unites and assists the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation to do their important work,” Scott said.

“Breast cancer touches a broad cross-section of the community and the race day is our way of supporting a local organisation that supports local people.”

This event, now broadly known as the Pink Race Day, has grown into one of the highlights of the Newcastle Racecourse calendar. This year there were more than 400 ladies booked into the Pink Marquee to have lunch, dance to a Pink tribute artist and have an enjoyable day out, with another 200 booked into the Stables Marquee for a cocktail party and grazing menu.

President of the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation, Lisa Bartley said the Clubs in the Community Race Day is a long-standing event for the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation and one of the biggest fundraisers on our calendar.

“What is unique about it is the activation throughout the day that brings the community together for a day of joy, celebration and mass awareness,” Lisa said.

“The event would not be possible without the support of the local clubs of the Hunter. We share common community-focused values and are proud to say that all funds raised are used for the grass roots supportive care of local women and men.”

Apart from the local Clubs providing support, there were also a variety of other sold out social events which provided the opportunity to dress up and have a day out at the races, all to support the Hunter Breast Cancer Foundation.
