Caterpillar Global Mining is looking to engage their diverse workforce and ensure each employee feels they are making a worthy contribution by participating in the Lake Macquarie City Council’s Eco Angel program.
Last year, 42 employees from Caterpillar’s Beresfield facility hosted an Eco Angel Clean Up, clearing 600kg of litter from the popular Warners Bay and Speers Point foreshore.
Caterpillar’s Underground Coal Manager, Peter Hogg, said the employees who participated in the event enjoyed the opportunity to interact with each other while doing something meaningful for the community and environment.
“Everyone involved benefits from participating in the Council’s Eco Angel program,” Peter said.
“Our staff felt uplifted and energised from getting outdoors, improving the environment and interacting with their peers. The community benefits from a clean and healthy environment and Caterpillar Global Mining benefits from having a cohesive team with motivated employees.”
“As a corporate exercise, this program reinforces Caterpillar’s values regarding responsible community and environmental stewardship with our employees, and that is why we are doing it again this year.”
Lake Macquarie City Council’s Manager of Sustainability, Dr Alice Howe, said since launching Eco Angels in 2013 participating groups have removed more than 12,400kg of waste from the local environment.
“Caterpillar’s achievements sums up what the Eco Angel program is all about. A group of people coming together to clean up a location in the City, while helping to build relationships, gives participants a sense of pride in doing their part for the community and environment,” Alice said.
Now Council is calling for more business partners to participate in the Eco Angel program and realise similar benefits to Caterpillar.
“Businesses can get involved in a number of ways including hosting a clean-up day as Caterpillar Global Mining did, making a donation or sponsoring an Eco Angel group, offering discount vouchers, donating merchandise or providing food or catering for an event,” Alice concluded.
