Over one hundred hospital staff and volunteers attended the Calvary Mater Newcastle’s Annual Celebration of Service Awards last week at the hospital.

Hospital staff were joined by family, friends and invited community guests to honour their significant contribution to the hospital.

Staff from all areas of the hospital were recognised for their years of service including, doctors, scientists, nurses, administration staff, volunteers and auxiliary members. They were awarded for 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 years of service.

CEO Greg Flint said the staff and volunteers look forward each year to the awards and enjoy receiving their service badges.

“We are very proud of our staff and volunteers, they take great pride in the work they do with our patients and the community, they provide the highest quality health care and they dedicate their work life to attaining good outcomes for our patients each and every day,” Greg said.

“Some of our long serving staff have committed their whole working life to the hospital and for many of our staff, their job is their life. Altogether the group’s combined service to the hospital is 1,905 years!”

“Calvary Mater Newcastle is a proud hospital with proud staff giving many years of service and I commend them on their long serving commitment to their professions in health care.”

Calvary Mater Newcastle’s researchers were also rewarded for their work in cancer research with grants and fundraising monies being awarded fields such as chemotherapy, melanoma, immunology and head and neck cancer.

Calvary Mater Newcastle currently employs approximately 1,200 staff and has over 90 dedicated volunteers and auxiliary members.
