The founder of Newcastle head-quartered smart mobility company BYKKO, Monica Zarafu has been recognised as the best in the business for innovation, being named Innovator of the Year at the 2021 Women in Digital Awards.
Monica says it was a privilege to be recognised by peers, especially female leaders in the innovation space.
“The National Women in Digital Awards were founded based on the idea ‘you can’t be what you can’t see.’ The transport and mobility industry has very few female leaders, but I hope it becomes the space where women lead innovative solutions,” she said.
“Smart mobility is the transport of the future and I hope that this award inspires the next generation to embrace opportunity to help solve global issues.”
The National Women in Digital Awards provides a platform for women to celebrate their achievements, an opportunity for the digital community to lift others in the industry and finally, a chance for women to come together to celebrate organisations and individuals making outstanding contributions to the industry and improving diversity in digital.
Women in Digital judges said Monica’s passion and ambition to solve real world problems using technology, alongside the exceptional user growth of BYKKO is what saw Monica take out the 2021 Innovator of the Year.
“Monica appears to have a deep understanding of the electric bike industry and she has applied her knowledge effectively in the creation of BYKKO,” they said.
“With mobility tech set to race ahead, Monica’s persistence in identifying shortcomings in the industry and developing an innovative technology-driven solution is sure to make her a winner now and in the future.”
The Innovator of Year Award, powered by Auto & General, recognises Australia’s leading female innovator and is awarded to the most forward-thinking, innovative, and disruptive product, service or business enhancement of the year.
