Newcastle’s Mattara Classic is one of Australia’s longest running surfing competitions and in part wouldn’t be here today without the support of local businesses like turn-around and insolvency firm, Jirsch Sutherland.
The historic Mattara Classic is one of the longest running professional surf competitions in Australia and 2014 will be its 53rd consecutive year. In 2014 the event will feature four divisions including Open Men’s, Junior Men’s, Under 16 boys and Under 18 Girls.
Jirsch Sutherland Partner, Bradd Morelli, knows all too well that surfing is embedded in Newcastle’s culture and said that as an ongoing sponsor the firm is committed to supporting the region’s surfing community through grass-roots sporting competitions like the Mattara Classic.
“We have been involved with the Newcastle surfing community for the past four years and are privileged to be able to support such a historic event which has been some of Newcastle’s surfing greats come through the ranks,” Bradd said.
“Newcastle has so much to offer and it is important that the businesses collaborate and get involved programs and events like this in the community.”
The event is organised by Surfing Newcastle and will run from 18 – 19 October 2014 at South Bar beach. Entry forms are available through the Surfing NSW and Surfing Newcastle.
