An unrelenting drought is affecting 99.8 per cent of the state and it’s so severe that an increasing number of farmers are at breaking point.
Farmers across Australia, including in the Hunter Valley region, are struggling to put food on the table and pay for feed to keep their animals alive.
The good news is that the local community has rallied to help support local farmers by making donations to the Buy a Bale campaign, a program designed to provide services and support to rural communities and their farmers. Amongst those local heroes is Belle Property Hunter Valley real estate agent and local, Brendan King.
Brendan and the Belle Property Hunter Valley office will donate $500 from every property Brendan sells to the Buy a Bail program until the end of the year. Their goal is to raise at least $9,500 to buy a semi-trailer load of hay that will be transported into a local affected area.
Brendan said the decision to support the community and the people who have done so much for the local real estate agency was a no-brainer.
“One of the great things about Hunter Valley is that our community backs one another. When we see others in trouble in our local area, we are spurred into action to lend a hand,” Brendan said.
“Our farmers need our help and we believe it’s important, as real estate agents and representatives of the communities we work and live in, that we dig deep and do our bit.”
The team at Belle Property Hunter Valley and Brendan hope that the funds raised could provide some relief to local farmers and encourage other businesses to jump into action.
“Our agents are very community-focused in both our Charlestown and Hunter Valley offices,” Principal of Belle Property Hunter Valley and Belle Property Charlestown, Anthony Di Nardo said.
“When Brendan said he wanted to support the Buy A Bail campaign, we immediately offered to match his contribution. We’re really proud to have the opportunity to make a difference through the support of our team, our buyers and sellers, and the local community.”
Buy a Bale is part of the charity Rural Aid. It strives to expand services and support to rural communities not only suffering through natural disasters, but that need help to remain in existence.
Belle Property Hunter Valley and Charlestown will open a third office in Cessnock under the one franchise owner later this year. The business offers comprehensive sales and property management services for rural and residential properties.
