Leading architects appointed to Property Council committees

Two experienced and well-respected architects will be advocating for well-designed and sustainable property development following their competitively selected appointments to separate roles on Property Council of Australia committees.

CKDS Architecture’s Senior Associate, Murray Wood, has been selected to join the Hunter Chapter Committee which represents a wide spread of expertise in both public and private sectors within the region’s industry.

A key focus is to continue to implement the initiatives for the Lower Hunter reform agenda and the review of planning controls for key councils.

With a career spanning 30 years, Murray believes it is important for architects to be represented on the committee to inspire and drive fresh ideas and help create change for the better.

“Our expertise also provides insight to the many complexities faced by developers navigating their way through challenging planning regulations and government policies,” Murray said.

CKDS Associate and Founder of the Emerging Architects and Graduates Network (EMAGN) in Newcastle, Cherry Parsons joins the Hunter Future Directions Committee. The committee supports aspiring future leaders in the property industry and aims to guide networking and professional development for young professionals.

“I am really looking forward to branching outside the ‘architecture’ circle to gain insight and build relationships with other aspiring leaders working within our property industry,” Cherry said.

“Architects can bring an alternative voice to the table, one that can express both big picture and visionary thinking, while also understanding the many different and often conflicting aspects of property development.”

Cherry and Murray were chosen amongst 4,000 nominations received from across Australia for the 1,600 places on the council.
